20-year-old Kent pedestrian dies after vehicle hits her | Update

Woman identified; she reportedly crossed outside of a crosswalk Aug. 15 along SE Kent-Kangley Road

A 20-year-old pedestrian was killed in Kent after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night, Aug. 15 along SE Kent-Kangley Road.

The Kent woman reportedly crossed in the 111000 block of SE Kent-Kangley Road outside of a crosswalk, according to an Aug. 16 Kent Police news release.

Diamantina A. Rose died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office Aug. 16 report, which ruled her death an accident.

An officer on routine patrol came across the incident at about 10:40 p.m., according to police. Just after his arrival, he was notified by dispatch that someone had called 911 to report the accident. Police later determined the caller was the driver, a 23-year-old Kent woman.

The officer discovered that Rose had significant injuries. He immediately called for medics and began chest compressions when he could not find a pulse on the woman, according to police. Medics arrived and continued to provide lifesaving aid, but Rose died of her injuries at the scene.

The vehicle driver was cooperative with the investigation and was interviewed by officers. Initial information and evidence gathered at the scene indicates that the pedestrian crossed Kent-Kangley Road outside of a crosswalk, according to police.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit was called to the scene to conduct the investigation. The unit is collecting evidence and statements to determine the circumstances that led up to the accident.
