The 2-year-old girl who nearly drowned in a pond Sunday near a Kent apartment complex remained unconscious Thursday at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
“According to medical staff the extent of her brain injury is unknown,” said Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson in a Friday email. “She is still unconscious, but there have been some signs of improvement.”
Robinson said hospital officials didn’t have any other details about the girl’s condition. Kent Police have not released the girl’s name.

Paramedics transported the girl in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after she was found face down in a pond Sunday afternoon at the Waterford at the Lakes apartment complex in the 23600 block of Lakeside Boulevard East.
The family of the girl was celebrating her birthday at the rec center at the complex, Robinson said. Many family members and children were present.
“Family noticed the victim was no longer in the rec center and when they searched the immediate area they discovered her face down in the large pond behind the rec center area at the corner of 236th and Lakeside Boulevard East,” Robinson said.
The girl was transferred to Seattle Children’s Hospital from Harborview.
