Kent Police arrested two young men and four juveniles Tuesday in connection with a series of burglaries, robberies, thefts and car prowls.
Police arrested a 19-year-old Kent man for investigation of burglary when officers searching for an alleged chronic thief found him in a local courtroom paying a traffic ticket, according to a Kent Police media release. Officers arrested the man and returned him to the same jail from which he was released a week earlier.
Later Tuesday afternoon, investigators arrested an 18-year-old Kent man and four juveniles reportedly associated with several robberies, car prowls, burglaries and trespass complaints over the past several months.
Police found the man and four juveniles in a west Kent home. They tried to flee, but were caught. Several of those arrested allegedly have ties to gang activity.
Officers also found two stolen laptops and a watch at the home.
While in the West Hill area, police discovered three other juveniles who they cited for investigation of possession of illegal drugs. They were released to relatives.
The arrests were part of a crackdown by Kent Police to reduce the number of burglaries and thefts. The special team of investigators includes uniformed officers, detectives, Neighborhood Response officers and a crime analyst.
“Our strategy is simple, we have identified those persons that continue to make property crime their means of income,” said Kent Police Cmdr. Pat Lowery. “We will reach out to each one of those people and deliver the message that there is a zero tolerance for any criminal activity.”
Kent Police are coordinating their efforts with local court officials, prosecutors and the state Department of Corrections to ensure that those arrested face the full scope of legal penalties.
