A Kent fire investigator is currently looking into the cause of an early morning duplex fire in the 22000 block of 84 Avenue South according to Kent Regional Fire Authority spokesman Capt. Kyle Ohashi.
The fire was first reported at approximately 4:45 a.m., and a police unit that arrived on scene confirmed the fire. When firefighters arrived, the flames were already coming out of windows and the roof of the single story building. They quickly worked to keep the flames from spreading to the second half of the duplex, which was boarded up but was possibly occupied.
One person, an adult female, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by Kent firefighters and King County paramedics. It is unclear if she was an occupant of the duplex or was simply in the area. Firefighters received conflicting reports from her. She was later transported to a local hospital. Two searches of the building confirmed that there was no one else in either half of the structure.
For a short time 84 Avenue South was closed completely for short period of time due to fire hose and fire apparatus blocking the lanes. The major north/south route is now at least partially open in both directions.
