Forty new players turned out for a Seattle Majestics women’s football team minicamp on Saturday at French Field in Kent.

“It went really well,” said Camille Head, co-owners of the Majestics. “We were hoping it would be around that mark. That was a little bit more than last year.”

Seattle coaches Mike Talley and Tremain Mack led the camp. They gave the players a basic introduction to football skills and positions.

The Majestics are a member of the Independent Women’s Football League, which features 11-on-11 tackle football games. Seattle plays its home games at French Field. The regular season runs from April through June.

The team had about 35 to 40 players on the roster last season. Head hopes the camp will help expand the roster for the 2010 season.

The Majestics will conduct a second camp from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 14 at French Field. New players are always welcome to join the team, Head said.
