The Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra is finishing up its fourth regular season and is celebrating with a concert.
The concert is titled The big BANG! Concert and is a blow out celebration. It will feature Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E-minor, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Fandango and Alaborada.
The concert will at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church located at 23855 SE 216th St in Maple Valley. A $5 suggested donation will be welcomed at the door. All of orchestra’s performing groups will be playing in this concert. Also to be featured in this concert will be Sarah Burwell, violin soloist. Burwell was one of the orchestra’s original eight members and has graduated on to violin coach for the youth symphony.
She studies with Cherlyn Johnson of Maple Valley.
Following the concert, the youth symphony will be moving into its summer stock season. Summer stock performers will be performing in a variety of local events including Maple Valley Creative Arts Council’s Arts Festival Gala, opening day at Maple Valley Farmers Market, a Tacoma Rainiers game, and the Fourth of July fireworks event at Lake Wilderness Park. The orchestra will also be hosting a summer music camp Aug. 8-12.
