The Museum of Flight hosts the region’s largest exhibition of scale models, the 2019 NorthWest Scale Modelers Show, on Saturday and Sunday.
The exhibit takes over the floor of the museum’s Great Gallery with hundreds of expertly crafted scale model aircraft, cars, figures and vehicles. The themes for this year’s annual event are D-Day, Air Racing and Record-Setting. The event includes modeling seminars about airbrush techniques, aircraft and ship rigging, paint pigments and more.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, author and modeler Chris Bucholtz presents a lecture and booksigning about his book, “Thunderbolts Triumphant: The 363nd Fighter Group vs Germany’s Wehrmacht.” This lecture and book signing is presented in conjunction with the American Fighter Aces Association. The exhibition and lecture are free with museum admission.
The museum is at 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, Exit 158, off Interstate 5 on Boeing Field, halfway between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
