Ruth Moody, a founding member of the internationally renowned, Billboard-charting trio The Wailin’ Jennys, brings her solo project to Kent’s Spotlight Series.
The Ruth Moody Band performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Kentwood Performing Arts Center, 25800 164th Ave. S.E., in Covington.
As a member of The Wailin’ Jennys and former lead singer of the Canadian roots band Scruj MacDuhk (the band that would later become The Duhks), Moody has performed in sold-out venues around the world, made numerous critically acclaimed albums, and has appeared more than a dozen times on the national radio show “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Although best known for her work with The Wailin’ Jennys, Moody is an artist of exceptional depth and grace in her own right, according to a city of Kent Spotlight Series media release. Critics have lauded her ethereal vocals, impressive multi-instrumentalism and her talent as a songwriter. Writing with a maturity and wisdom that belies her age, her songs are timeless, universal, and exceptionally well-crafted, all sung with an intimacy and honesty that is unmistakably her own.
Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors (ages 55 and older) and $18 for youth (ages 25 and younger).
Tickets are available at www.kentarts.com, by calling 253-856-5051 or at the Kent Commons, 525 Fourth Ave. N. Hours for phone and in-person sales are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The box office is closed on Sunday.
