Those people who are old enough to remember Carol Burnett’s Princess Winnefred in “Once Upon A Mattress” know how funny this show can be.
It made Burnett a star and inspired little girls across America to place peas under their mattress to see if the pea would keep them awake.
Kentwood senior Amanda Olsen, last seen as the nurse in “Romeo and Juliet,” will play the bold but lovable Winnefred.
KJ Knies will play the challenged Prince Dauntless, sophomore Maggie Mosbarger as the caustic and very funny Queen Aggravaine and senior Jon Myers plays her long suffering mute husband, King Sextimus.
The cast is rounded out with great vocal work by Patrick Pham (The Minstrel), Brandon Fisher (The Jester), Brooke Bower (Lady Larken) and Shane Green (Sir Harry).
Former Kentwood player’s star, Kyle Pleasant, who is now teaching dance in New York, came back to do the choreography for the show.
Berit Ballard, who is the voice teacher for many of Kentwood’s young singers, is the music director of the show.
The production is considered excellent fun for the entire family.
