Kent Public Library: 212 2nd Avenue N., Kent. 253-859-3330. Hours: 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday; 1-5 p.m., Sunday. Library events include:

CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Free Summer Meals: 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 23. Free lunch for children and teens ages 1 to 18.

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn: 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Fridays. Newborn to age 5 with caregiver. Have fun singing songs, telling stories, reading books, creating art and playing. Play & Learn is in English, and the facilitator is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Party on the Patio: 11 a.m. Aug. 4. Family program, all ages welcome with adult. Join Miss Robin, your Kent children’s librarian, for songs, stories, movement and crafts. Bring a blanket or folding chair for front row seats. Weather permitting, we will meet outside of the library’s entrance.

Rock It Afternoons: 2 p.m. Aug. 7. Come check out this garden on wheels and stick around for earth science activities and crafts! You’ll have the opportunity to pick and taste things, learn about gardening, and plant your own seeds. The Learning Garden Truck is brought by the Des Moines Area Food Bank.

Kid Movie of the Month: 4 p.m. Aug. 17. “Hair Spray” (2007). Family program, all ages welcome with adult. Rated PG; 117 minutes.

TWEENS & TEENS

Wizarding Wands Workshop: 3 p.m. Aug. 8. Ages 9 to 19. Design a wand from select “magical” materials. All supplies provided.

History of EDM (Electronic Dance Music): 3 p.m. Aug.15. Presented by Jason Price (aka Doctor J). Ages 11 to 20. Do you know the origins of Electronic Dance Music, where the popular genre came from, and the philosophical ideology behind dance music culture? Come learn more about this dance phenomenon.

Study Zone – Summer Session: 2 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning July 11. Grades K-12. Drop in any time during Study Zone hours to get assistance from volunteer tutors..

ADULTS

Friends of the Kent Library Meeting: 1-2 p.m. Aug. 9.

Adults @ Play, 3-D Pens: 2-3 p.m. Aug. 12. 3-D pens are held like any pen but instead of ink, they draw with a softened, quick hardening plastic allowing you to create designs and sculptures in three dimensions.

Sign Up for Orca Lift & Basic Food: 3-5 p.m. Aug. 14. Drop in to register for Orca Lift (reduced transit fare for ages 19 and up) and Basic Food. Basic Food is what Washington calls the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps people make ends meet by providing monthly food benefits. Individuals and families may apply. Check orcalift.com or call King County Public Health at 1-800-756-5437 to see if you qualify. Bring ID and income verification documents. After Lunch Book Club: 1 p.m. Aug. 15. “Gray Mountain” by John Grisham.

Coordinated Entry for All, Housing Resources: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 16. Coordinated Entry for All (CEA) ensures that people experiencing homelessness in King County can get help finding stable housing by identifying, evaluating, and connecting them to housing support services and housing resources. Take the first step and drop in to meet with a housing assessor from Multi-Service Center. Questions? Call the center at 253-838-6810.

2018 Summer Dance Series, Hula: 2:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Get your dance on at Town Square Plaza.

Broadway at the Kent Library, “Waitress:” 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 21. Presented by choreographer and dancer Nikki Long. Ages 14 and older. Come for a dance class inspired by the irresistible hit musical “Waitress,” playing Sept. 11-16 at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. STG’s Broadway at Kent is a new workshop series focused on teaching dance featured in the Broadway touring productions that take the stage at The Paramount Theatre. Dance experience not required.Please register.
