CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn: 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. June 7, 14, 21 and 28. Newborn to age 5 with caregiver. Have fun singing songs, telling stories, reading books, creating art and playing. Play & Learn is in English, and the facilitator is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Star Party Astronomy Orientation: 4:30 p.m. June 7. Family program, ages 5 and older welcome. Ages 8 and younger with adult. Constellations, stars, planets and galaxies: what can you see in the night sky? Join an educator from the Seattle Astronomical Society for an orientation to the stars and what you can experience at a Star Party, including songs and treats.

Movie of the Month: 4 p.m. June 14, “Wonder” (2017). All ages welcome, ages 8 and younger with adult. Rated PG; 113 minutes.

Family Story Time: 10:30 a.m. June 26. Ages 2 and older with adult. Stories, song and fun.

Infant and Young Toddler Story Time: 10:30 a.m. June 27. Ages newborn to 2 with adult. Stories, songs and fun. Social time follows.

Suited for Space Science Workshop: 3 p.m. June 27. Presented by Museum of Flight. Ages 8 and older. How do you protect an astronaut in a low-pressure environment? Work with others to design and build a prototype space suit, then test it in the vacuum chamber. Space is limited. Registration required.

Summer Meals at the Library: 12:30-1:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, June 26-Aug. 23. Free lunch for children and teens ages 1 to 18. Adults are welcome to bring their own meal and beverage. Feed your body and your brain at the library. In partnership with the Des Moines Area Food Bank and United Way AmeriCorps VISTA members.

TWEENS & TEENS

Between Time: 2 p.m. June 5, 12, 19. Ages 9 to 19. Drop in between school and home to meet friends, play games, discover new books and music, study or try different craft or tech activities each session.

Study Zone: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sundays; 3:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Grades K-12. Drop in for homework assistance from trained volunteer tutors.

Welcoming Center, Immigration Legal Clinic: 5:30 p.m. June 5. The Welcoming Center at Kent Library is a place for immigrants, refugees and new arrivals – connecting you to the people and resources in the area you live. The Eastside Legal Assistance Program (ELAP) provides free 45-minute consultations with an immigration attorney to King County residents who qualify for assistance. Attorneys cannot represent clients but can refer to other assistance. Available by appointment only. Please call ELAP’s main line, 425-747-7274, to determine if you qualify for assistance and to schedule an appointment at the Kent Library. ELAP has over-the-phone translation services available.

Represent Yourself in Court, The Nuts & Bolts of Motions: 6:30 p.m. June 6. This advanced workshop is designed for those who have attended Civil Lawsuits without Tears: The Basics of Representing Yourself in Court or those who need more information on the process for drafting, filing and responding to motions and orders. Learn about the purpose, content, format and calendaring of motions along with the court rules governing them. Registration required.

Reflections of the Moon, The 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and its Impact Today: 2 p.m. June 9. Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11, and learn about NASA’s path to the moon during the Space Race with NASA Solar System Ambassador and Museum of Flight Space Curator, Geoff Nunn. This talk will reflect on the path that led to the first moon landing with a special emphasis on local contributions to the Space Race and the ongoing impact of Apollo today.

Coordinated Entry for All (CEA) ensures that people experiencing homelessness in King County can get help finding stable housing by identifying, evaluating, and connecting them to housing support services and resources. Represent Yourself in Court, Civil Lawsuits Without Tears: 6:30 p.m. June 27. Presented by The Public Law Library of King County. Representing yourself in court is a complicated process and can be overwhelming. In this workshop, learn the basics of the civil litigation process with a focus on court rules, court procedures, forms, scheduling and deadlines. Registration required.

Sketching & Painting Birds: 2 p.m. June 30. Presented by Molly Hashimoto. Ages 8 to adult. Learn how to sketch and paint birds in this hands-on watercolor workshop. Use pencil, watercolor and pens and get inspired by many of our favorite western species. Molly is the author of the just-released book, “Birds of the West: An Artist’s Guide,” and a longtime teacher. She also wrote and illustrated “Colors of the West: An Artist’s Guide.” Both books are published by Mountaineers Books. All supplies provided. Registration required.

Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and enjoy an “out of this world” show, complete with a tornado of juggling and a whirlwind of scientific knowledge.

Drawing Aliens for Comics Art Workshop: 3 p.m. June 28. Presented by Elizabeth Guizzeti. Ages 8 and older. Learn to draw an alien and discover how to use your character to illustrate your own comic book or graphic novel. Registration required online or call 253-854-0211.
