For the Reporter
Port Townsend jazz vocalist/composer Robin Bessier debuts songs from her CD, “Other Side of Forever”, at Red’s Wine Bar in Kent on Saturday, April 26, from 8 to 11 p.m.
The evening will include a mix of original and contemporary material, peppered with fresh interpretations of jazz standards.
“Other Side of Forever” hit the top-40 jazz charts on CMJ shortly after its release last summer amidst critical acclaim, with airplay on radio stations across the globe, but a bout of pneumonia followed by a broken leg prevented Bessier from hitting the road with her material until recently.
“Vibrant swing, bright and breezy bossas and heart-tugging ballads are intertwined with great effect … the ebb and flow is effortless. Robin Bessier owns these tunes with impeccable phrasing, timing and that special connectivity with the listener to really seal the deal,” writes Brent Black with Critical Jazz.
The BBC Jazz Trio will accompany Bessier, including pianist/composer/arranger Dave Bristow, bassist Neil Conaty; and drummer Kurt Bischoff. Since teaming up last year, Bessier & the BBC have been transporting audiences with their steaming rhythms, inventive arrangements and vocals that simmer and soar.
Red’s Wine Bar is in Kent Station at 321 Ramsay Way, No. 110.
