In 1843, Danish author Hans Christian Andersen penned one of his most beloved fables, “The Ugly Duckling.”
Fast forward to 2019, when Heavier Than Air Family Theatre Company splashes onto the stage with “HONK!,” the heartwarming and humorous musical inspired by Andersen’s touching work.
“HONK!” opens at 7 p.m. Friday, June 21 in the Performing Arts Building on the main campus of Green River College, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn, and runs through Saturday, June 29.
“HONK!” performances are at 7 p.m. June 21, 22, 28 and 29, with a 2 o’clock matinee on Saturdays, June 22 and 29.
With sparkling wit and a delightful score, “HONK!” tells the story of Ugly, a misfit duckling, whose journey of self-discovery proves that being different is what makes us special. An original British play, “HONK!” was the recipient of the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Musical, and its winning message of celebrating uniqueness has been captivating audiences for years.
While Hans Christian Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tale themes that transcend age and limitation, Heavier Than Air will best be remembered for transcending the written word with the magic of musical theatre. After 45 fantastic years, retirement is on the horizon for founder/director Joe Baker, as the theatre company presents its final and arguably fondest production.
