Fee Fi Fo Fum.
“These are not just ordinary beans. …” So goes the tune a peddler sings to an adventurous boy as they strike a bargain for the family cow. It’s not a twist on “Let’s Make A Deal”, but a scene from “Jack & The Giant”, Heavier Than Air Family Theatre Company’s musical retelling of a classic fairy tale.
“Jack & The Giant” opens at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23 for five performances through Saturday, July 1 on the main campus of Green River College, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn.
The stage version of “Jack & The Beanstalk” was written especially for the theatre company by music director, Bob Hubley, and puts a spin on the original story that breathes fresh life into timeless characters for a new generation.
There’s still a peddler with magic beans, a goose that lays golden eggs, and a giant who bellows “Fee Fi Fo Fum” to announce his displeasure, but the play is bursting with such wit and humor it seems the tale is being told for the very first time.
Thanks to the combined talents of children from Heavier Than Air’s summer camp program, local actors and professionals, the community theatre has become an Auburn staple for quality family entertainment
