People of all ages and entertainment skills are invited to participate in Talent Quest, a local live show set for Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Kent-Meridian High School Performing Arts Center.
“We have so many talented performers in the area, and we are excited to showcase them at Talent Quest,” said Brenda Farwell, president of the Kent Community Foundation, which is organizing the show. “This fun event is also a fundraiser to support arts and education programs in the greater Kent area.”
The talent competition will feature three age categories: youth (12 and under), teens (13 to 19) and adults (20 and older). It is open to South King County residents.
Talent can be loosely interpreted to incorporate a wide range of talents (e.g., music, dance, magic, comedy, poetry, etc.), according to Farwell. There will be cash prizes for the winner of each category and an overall prize, thanks to generous sponsors. Winners will also have the opportunity to perform at local events as representatives of Talent Quest.
The Kent Community Foundation is bringing back the talent show after an absence of several years. With a passion for the performing arts, Tonya Goodwillie of Allegro Performing Arts Academy originally launched the local talent competition in 2011 with So You Think Kent Has Talent. The event had a successful two-year run. Leaders of the Kent Community Foundation assisted Goodwillie in 2016 and 2017 with Kent Has Talent.
“The time is right to bring this great event back to the community,” Goodwillie said. “It is a great opportunity for the foundation and other local businesses and organizations to support the performing arts in the region.”

Registration, which is free, opened on Nov. 1, with preliminary qualification rounds set for Jan. 4 and Jan. 12 at the Allegro Performing Arts Academy, 222 Central Ave. S.
