Puyallup’s Hugo Roman returned to the scene to claim the Kent Senior Center Pie Eating Contest at the 19th annual Fourth of July Splash at Lake Meridian Park on Tuesday.
Roman devoured a half piece of apple pie, courtesy of the downtown Shari’s, in three minutes to beat nine other contestants for the 18-and-older division win.
“It’s really delicious. I want more,” said Roman, 46, a warehouse worker who finished second in the competition a year ago.
Nathaniel Norton took the 6-10 age group title and Matthew Shull, above, captured the 11-17 age group win.
The contest was a part of the holiday festivities at the park that included live music, children’s activities, food and drinks – culminating with a fireworks display.
