Comedian Jo Koy received a key to the city from Kent Mayor Dana Ralph as he sold out two shows Sunday and Monday at the accesso ShoWare Center.
Ralph went backstage to present the key to Koy, according to the city of Kent’s Facebook page. Ralph also proclaimed Monday, Feb. 17, as Jo Koy Day in Kent because of his local ties (he’s from Tacoma) and record-breaking attendance at the city-owned arena.
“Both shows sold out for a total capacity of approximately 14,000,” said ShoWare general manager Tim Higgins in a Tuesday email.
Koy reportedly told Ralph he would return to Kent to take the mayor to lunch.
Koy also sold out two shows in February 2018 at the ShoWare Center, which brought more than 11,000 people to the arena.
Koy has come a long way from his modest beginnings performing at a Las Vegas coffee house. As one of today’s premiere stand-up comedians, Koy sells out theaters and arenas around the world, and has been breaking ticket sale records with his infectious and explosive energy on-stage. He pulls inspiration from his family, specifically his son, with material that has universal appeal.
