Balance and fall screenings slated
Des Moines-area seniors can come for free 5-minute balance and fall screenings between 11 a.m. and noon Aug. 21 at the Des Moines Activity Center, 2045 S. 216th St.
Physical therapist Jeff Wheeler with Highline Therapy Services/Highline Medical Center will conduct the screenings.

Breakfast and a movie set for seniors
Radcliffe Place Senior Community will offer a free breakfast buffet and movie matinee Aug. 20 at the community, 13510 S.E. 272nd St., Kent. Jump rope camp hops into Kent
Members of the Hot Dog USA Jump Rope Team will lead a Jump Rope Camp Aug. 25 through 28 at Allegro Performing Arts Academy, 1209 Central Ave. S., Suite 101, Kent. The camp runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, and is open to first-graders through adults. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers, and bring a water bottle and some snacks. Relay gearing up for 2009
The Kent Relay for Life has openings for local volunteers wanting to serve on the event committee for 2009. Anyone interested in making a difference in the community and fighting cancer is welcome to volunteer. Help combat flu with Visiting Nurses
Visiting Nurse Services of the Northwest is seeking volunteers to help with its annual flu immunization program October through December at locations throughout King and Snohomish counties.
