Join Auburn Symphony Orchestra musicians for an intimate concert experience – Uncommon Voices: Music for Woodwind Quintet – for two performances in March.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6 at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S, and 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at St. Matthew Episcopal Church, 123 L St. NE, Auburn.
Enjoy a taste of new and rarely heard works by a diverse set of composers with the dynamic musicians of the Auburn Wind Quintet. Composers include Claude Arrieu, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Kevin Scott, Godwin Sadoh, Gwyneth Walker and many others.
Featured Auburn Symphony musicians are clarinetist Jennifer Nelson, flutist Wendy Wilhelmi, oboist Shannon Spicciati, bassoonist Mona Butler and hornist Rodger Burnett.
Nelson plays principal clarinet with Auburn Symphony and Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestras. She has an active freelance career, playing Broadway-style shows at the Fifth Avenue and Paramount Theaters, occasional extra with Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera orchestras, and records for various television and motion picture scores.
Wilhelmi is active as a teacher and performer throughout the Pacific Northwest, frequently playing with some of the region’s finest ensembles, including Auburn Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Northwest Sinfonietta and Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra. In 1998, Wilhelmi won first place in the National Flute Association’s Piccolo Artist Competition.
Spicciati is principal oboist with Auburn Symphony and Northwest Sinfonietta, and is a faculty member and Affiliate Artist at Pacific Lutheran University. Spicciati enjoys an active performance and teaching career in the Seattle metropolitan area playing extensively with the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera on oboe and English horn, and as featured soloist with SSO.
Butler has performed with the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Grand Teton Festival Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic. She is principal bassoon of the Pacific Northwest Ballet and Auburn Symphony Orchestras.
Burnett, principal French horn of the Auburn Symphony, has been principal horn and personnel manager of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra since its founding. He performs frequently with the Seattle Symphony, 5th Avenue and Paramount Theaters, and Seattle Opera, with which he has performed all four Wagner tuba parts in the Ring Cycle.
This is the final chamber concert in Auburn Symphony’s 2019-20 season. The next symphony concert is Music of Richart Strauss on April 26.
Reserved seats can be purchased in advance or the day of the concert. Ticket prices are $20 general admission, $10 for students. Parking is free.
