Senator’s sorry remarks reflect divided Olympia

Sen. Maureen Walsh’s comment about nurses spending their day playing cards after introducing an amendment requiring an eight-hour shift just to make a political point is the epitome of what is wrong with our legislators. She did not expect her amendment to pass, but it did because the other side wanted to make a political point, too.

The Legislature engages in this petty bickering while ignoring serious issues. In the early ’80s, it gave “get out of jail free cards” to most criminals. That policy has come to fruition. Neighborhoods are under siege by addicts looting to support their habit. If brick-and-mortar retail survives online competition, unprosecuted, chronic shoplifting will destroy it.

I was encouraged when the Legislature finally passed legislation to mitigate natural disasters. Then, I learned it is only establishes another gubbermint procrastination committee.

Trump is right. We need a wall. Build it around Washington. Lock it from the outside to keep our policies from contaminating the rest of the USA.
