It was disappointing to see Dino Rossi (like Dave Reichert) avoid constituents and not appear for the League of Women Voter’s forum. His absence was a contrast to the visibility of the three Democratic candidates on the ballot who were active in town halls, neighborhood meetings and community gatherings throughout the district for months leading up to the Primary.
Rossi’s known record is cause for concern. He has shown a disdain for the rights and humanity of both women and LGBTQ individuals. A millionaire real estate investor, Rossi refuses to release his tax returns.
His implied positions as a proud pro-Trump delegate to the Republican convention could limit important checks and balances within our government. He supported Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy, which will add more than $1 trillion to our deficit. This is not the action of a fiscal conservative. Agreeing with Trump, Rossi would take health care from 40,000 people in our district. His rubber stamp of Trump anti-immigration actions would harm DACA youth living, studying and working in our communities.
Maybe none of these issues affects you personally. Look around. They assuredly affect people you know and care about.
Each candidate on the ballot in November must be available and provide answers to voters about what they stand for.
But the most important question for the voters of this district is: “What do we stand for?”
