As of this writing, on Nov. 6, your City Council plans on reallocating a 15.38 percent internal tax that is due to expire. The reallocated money will go from the capital resources fund into the city general fund to deal with the upcoming “fiscal cliff.”
Instead of allowing the tax to sunset after paying off a specific debt, the council is going to keep collecting the tax and use the money for the general fund. They figure that you are comfortable in paying the tax and will not notice (or care) that the money collected is being redistributed for purposes other than what was originally intended. This is a dishonest approach to running our city government.
If the government wants the money, they should be on record for the increase of taxes collected. Remember, this a year from now when several members of our city government will be running for re-election.
