The readership of the Kent Reporter was treated (Sept. 12) to a tearjerking moment when Bailey Stober urged taxpayers to approve Proposition A on the November ballot, providing for a safer Kent in the form of a new police station.
Along with quality of schools, most house-hunters rate "safety" as a high priority while searching for their future neighborhood and home.
Once again, the animal rights extremists with PETA are attempting to distort Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's record on animal care.
I am all for safety at the schools in question ("City plans to keep speed cameras at just two schools," Kent Reporter Sept. 12).
We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Kent that meets at noon for providing us with much needed help in preparing our annual book sale at the Kent Library.
When we find ourselves in a time of need, panic or emergency we don't think twice but to call 911.
Here in Kent we have the finest law enforcement agency in Washington.
My grandchildren from Seattle come to visit us, and one of the things we enjoy doing together, when they come, is putt-putt golf next to the par 3 course in Kent.
Your Aug. 29 article, "Kent school traffic cameras catch nearly 5,000 speeding drivers", implies that the traffic cameras operate only when the speed limit is 20 mph. That is not the case.
"Getting a close look at firefighting" (Kent Reporter, Aug. 22) was probably the best article written in the Reporter in the last several years. We found it very informative while also very interesting. Well done.
I would like to add my voice to others of concerned citizens in protest of the inordinate use of fireworks within our Kent neighborhoods.
Re: "Kent couple loses apartment eviction battle; must move" (Kent Reporter, Aug. 15). When I read this article I wanted to call the tenants and give them free advice.
Given all the controversy about the Ringling Bros. Circus, it's puzzling your piece ("Ringling Bros. circus coming to Kent Sept. 25-28", online, Kent Reporter) mentioned not a word about it.

Yet again, out for an evening stroll with my dog, and we are accosted by an aggressive dog. This time, I was able to make enough noise and show more aggression than the attacking dog, and it went away without bloodshed.
After another disgusting "celebration" of our country's Declaration of Independence from Great Britain, I am totally disappointed that the mayor and the City Council of Kent continue to support the use of private fireworks.

The Fourth of July is over, but keep the subject current. I am asking the City of Kent to ban the personal use of fireworks. Many have written as to why this needs to be done.
