2018 elections: Dino Rossi owes an apology

The Sept. 7 issue of the Auburn Reporter included a letter by Martin Metz that demanded an apology from Dr. Kim Schrier for comparing her race against Dino Rossi to fighting the Nazis in Word War II.

But what exactly had Schrier said? Metz’s letter fails to provide any quotations, context or evidence of what exact nonsense was uttered.

Here is the quote from the Washington State Indivisible podcast that the Dino Rossi campaign finds so offensive:

“I think back to the questions we ask our own parents. I asked my own parents: What were you doing during the Civil Rights movement? I imagine things like ‘what would I have done in World War II? ‘And I would always like to think that I would be on the right side of history, and that I would be bold enough to stand up and do the right thing, and be brave enough. And so, I know my son, Sam, will ask me some day, ‘Hey mom, what did you do after Trump got elected?’ And this is my answer to him.”

Nowhere does Schrier compare her campaign to fighting in WWII. In fact, she is explaining that her campaign arose from the desire to stand up and do what she felt was right for her and her family; a desire that draws inspiration from people who were courageous during WWII and the Civil Rights Movement. I am surprised any veteran would disapprove of finding inspiration in those who fought in WWII.

Metz’s letter goes on to claim that Dino Rossi is a “decent and honorable man.” Why? Because he sold commercial real estate? Because he loses state-wide elections?

Schrier aspires to courage, strength and bravery. Rossi aspires to carry water for an incompetent president, who has a penchant for attacking Gold Star families, calling neo-Nazis “very fine people” and saluting North Korean generals.

Furthermore, by using WWII to attack a person of Jewish-decent, Rossi is not only distasteful, but anti-Semitic and unAmerican.

Ironically, I think if Trump himself looked at Rossi’s career, he too would declare him to be a “total loser.”

Dino Rossi owes the 8th Congressional District an apology for the campaign he is running.
