After five years of planning and months of waiting, the state’s first Topgolf is finally open to the public in Renton.

On July 29, Renton Mayor Armondo Pavone, Renton City Council members, Boeing officials, and more gathered for the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of one of the most anticipated businesses to open in South King County.

Topgolf is a golf driving range, but with a twist. Instead of trying to hit the golf ball as far as possible, Topgolf offers a variety of games that can be played with special microchipped balls. Topgolf provides the golf clubs (though patrons are allowed to bring their own clubs) and a special range scattered with large targets that have been described as giant dartboards.

“If you looked down from straight above, that’s exactly what they look like. The goal is to hit the targets and we have games like Angry Birds and lots of games for more skilled golfers,” said Topgolf Director of Sales Monica Buckner.

There are three levels to the building that include bays where individuals or parties of six or fewer can enjoy Topgolf while also ordering food and drinks. Each bay comes with its own TV where patrons can watch various sports games. There are also two large TVs hanging in the interior of the building, where people are encouraged to watch any games they can’t go to themselves.

One of the featured amenities at Topgolf are the three “Swing Suites” bays, where patrons can play multiple virtual games for a “one-of-a-kind” simulation. These suites provide other virtual sports experiences outside of golf such as hockey, baseball and even a game called Zombie Dodgeball.

The Topgolf also offers three bars and a restaurant that includes a breakfast menu that is served until 2 p.m. Topgolf Renton offers modular conference rooms that can be reserved for business meetings or for parties.

“It’s the first Topgolf design of its kind to open in Washington state,” said Buckner, commenting on the indoor/outdoor patios of the building that come with cushioned chairs and small gas fireplaces. “We Pacific Northwesterners, we love our fireplaces.”

Prices for playing Topgolf go by an hourly rate for each bay, and the prices depend on the days and hours, going as low as $42 per hour to as high as $70 per hour.
