A new breakfast and lunch spot has opened in Kent, and it is a family affair.
Three brothers joined forces and opened Yukon Grill at 19033 68th Ave. S., D-108 in the Kent West Valley Business Park on West Valley Highway.
Kurt, Joe and Pat Mikel are the brothers and serving breakfast and lunch is their specialty.
Kurt and Joe are at the restaurant on a daily basis. Pat works in the oil fields in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. He heads to the restaurant when he gets his two weeks off to help put the dishes out.
Pat is the oldest, graduating from Highline High School in 1976. Kurt graduated in 1982 and Joe in 1990, each from Highline.
Although all three of the boys are working in the food-service industry, their interests didn’t come from the family.
Their father was assistant superintendent at Highline and their mother was coordinator for the special education program at the school.
Kurt and Joe were introduced to the business by washing dishes in a restaurant when they were high school students.
The first jump into the restaurant business for Kurt and Joe was more than a decade ago with BK’s Kitchen in Des Moines on Pacific Highway South.
“We served breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Kurt said. “We serve breakfast and lunch here, but that may change. We do catering as well.”
Breakfast features include panhandle pancakes, frontier French toast and several different omelets.
For lunch, the menu has Yukon chicken wraps, a philly cheesesteak and a Mount McKinley burger.
The restaurant also features take out as well as lattes with heart-shaped foam.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with breakfast served all day.
