For the Reporter
One of the longest-established names in the automotive and RV industry is expanding.
Valley Auburn RV, a Jayco dealer, has opened a second location in Kent, and it comes with a new name – Valley RV Supercenter.
The new facility, at 619 Washington Ave. N., Kent, is five times larger than the Auburn store and features an indoor showroom, an expanded parts department and more than service bays.
A grand opening for the new dealership is 1 p.m. June 8. Mayor Suzette Cooke, along with other local dignitaries, are scheduled to preside over a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Valley RV Supercenter has its RV roots dating back to 1966 when founders Frank Lee and Ron Claudon Sr. took on the Winnebago line of motorhomes and actually sold four of the first 10 ever built. The RV facility became Valley I-5, just off the interstate in Kent, in 1979. That dealership was eventually sold.
In 2009, Ron Claudon Jr. teamed up with longtime Valley I-5 manager and RV expert Tony Weeldreyer to start Valley Auburn RV.
“We just felt the timing was right. Plus, we had outgrown our Auburn location,” said Tony Weeldreyer, co-owner and general manager.
The grand opening, which extends to June 9, will offer food, drink and activities for families.
During this event, Valley RV Supercenter will donate $100 for each unit sold to the Kent Downtown Partnership.
