Trader Joe’s plans to start hiring Aug. 25 at its new Kent store scheduled to open Sept. 30 at 12966 S.E. Kent Kangley Road in The Marketplace at Lake Meridian.
The 12,800-square-foot-store could employ up to 70. Starting wages at Trader Joe’s vary from reports of $13.20 to $13.75 per hour. Hiring continues until Sept. 9.
Trader Joe’s took its name from “the way the company blazed a distinct trail though the grocery industry,” according to a company press release. The atmosphere is light-hearted and friendly because employees wear brightly colored Hawaiian shirts.
The company introduces approximately a dozen new items every week to its stores. According to its news release, Trader Joe’s buyers travel around the world searching out unique products, which have to pass a tasting panel before they are stocked.
The store is also “a store of stories,” the release continued. Every item has its own virtues, including high quality ingredients, great flavor and an extraordinary price. Many items in the store have these qualities, Trader Joe’s said.
Trader Joe’s spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki said the store will feature artwork and murals that “celebrate the neighborhood.”
