Top Pot Doughnuts recently opened a new production facility in north Kent to supply its 18 locations.
Top Pot also plans to open a cafe in early 2025 at the Kent location, 6004 S. 190th St., Suite 102, so people can buy doughnuts and coffee. The company moved from a smaller production facility in Tukwila to the new 28,600-square-foot space.
“Kent was appealing to us for several reasons—joining the ever-growing food production community in the Kent Valley, working with an outstanding property owner in Pietromonaco Jackson, and, importantly, minimizing the disruption and commute changes for our bakery team,” Chief Executive Officer Jim Eschweiler said in an Oct. 18 email.
Known as The Foundry, the facility employs about 75 and that number is expected to grow, Eschweiler said.
”The new facility provides us with a significant increase in both production and distribution capabilities, and we are excited to take Top Pot to new places,” he said.
Top Pot started in 2002 with a single location on Capitol Hill in Seattle. The company has grown with numerous Seattle locations as well as stores in Renton, Issaquah, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Bothell, Edmonds and Tacoma.
“We are in the planning and permitting stage for a café to be located at The Foundry, which should be a fun spot for our neighboring workers as well as those using the Green River Trail,” Eschweiler said about opening in Kent. “We will likely open that location early in 2025.”
The company celebrated its grand opening of the production facility Oct. 12.
Bill Ellis, city of Kent chief economic development officer, said during his Oct. 15 report to the City Council that the facility produces about 40,000 doughnuts per day. Ellis said there are 173 food and beverage manufacturers in the Kent Valley. Top Pot is less than a mile east of the Macrina Bakery and Cafe, 19215 66th Ave. S.
