The Goddard School, the largest franchised preschool system in the nation, opened a Kent location last week.
Crews broke ground on the school, 24116 132nd Ave. SE, in 2019 but COVID-19 delayed the opening. Now the school is enrolling children ages 6 weeks to 6 years, according to a Nov. 15 press release.
The play-based learning experience offered at The Goddard School uses the most current, academically endorsed methods in early childhood education so children can learn through many different subjects and enrichment classes, according to the press release. From learning how to communicate using sign language to developing problem-solving skills through playing chess, Goddard helps children develop interests and use their imagination.
“Working for many years in the early childhood education field, I saw firsthand how important a well-balanced, high-quality early childhood education is in a child’s life,” said Chelsey Milton, owner of The Goddard School of Kent. “As educators, we’re here to provide children with the building blocks to learn and grow to their highest potential, and I’m thrilled I can offer parents the option to send their children to school without having to worry about compromising their health.”
Milton and her faculty remain committed to ensuring a safe, high quality learning experience and have implemented health and safety protocols such as health checks before entry, virtual tours, a fully vaccinated staff, professional cleanings each night and the latest sanitization technologies.
Kent is one of more than 560 franchised locations open in 38 states and with nine locations in the Seattle area, including Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Issaquah and Snoqualmie. The newly constructed, 10,200-square-foot building is equipped with nine classrooms and two outdoor playgrounds. The school has space for 145 children from infants to preschoolers and is adding 20 to 30 teaching jobs to the area.
Full-time Goddard School tuition is around $1,500 to $1,600 per month for toddlers, and $1,400 to $1,500 per month for preschool- and kindergarten-age children, according to suntrustblog.com, which tracks average rates for preschools across the nation. Rates are higher in some states compared to other states.
The Goddard School would not release tuition rates to the Kent Reporter but said parents interested in enrolling at the Kent location are encouraged to call the school to talk through the curriculum, the classroom their child will be learning in, the flexible scheduling options and the monthly tuition rates.
