Sports Authority plans to close all 463 of its stores, including a Kent location, because of declining sales.
The sporting goods retailer plans to launch a going-out-of business sale later this week at its stores, according to several media sources on Monday.
In March, Sports Authority said it didn’t plan to close a Kent store or any of its other 18 locations in Washington as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filing. But the financial losses and competition from online sales became too much for the company.
Sports Authority opened its Kent store in March 2015 at 13026 S.E. Kent Kangley Road, in the same shopping complex as Trader Joe’s. The company also has stores in Auburn and Tukwila.
The Colorado-based company has 463 stores in 41 states and Puerto Rico. Company officials said earlier this year that Sports Authority has $1.1 billion in debt as sales continue to slump.
