Nestle USA in Kent is laying off 67 workers as the company shuts down its direct-to-store delivery network in favor of a warehouse model.
The layoffs begin to take effect Oct. 18, according to the Employment Security Department, which posted the closure last week.
The Virginia-based company announced the changes to its business model in May. The move means a loss of about 4,000 jobs, according to media reports.
The reductions represent about 8.3 percent of the USA division’s 48,000-employee workforce, according to reports.
Nestle said a warehouse model has become an industry standard for major food companies looking to trim costs.
