Macrina Bakery had a grand opening on Monday at its new Kent headquarters, 19215 66th Ave. S.,  including free coffee and a ribbon cutting by Mayor Suzette Cooke.

A cafe, attached to the new wholesale bakery, is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday in the north Kent warehouse area.

Macrina offers artisanal breads, cornetti (Italian-style croissants), pastries, cakes, tarts, sandwiches, soups and other savory items.

The company decided to move to Kent from Seattle because it needed a larger space and found better lease rates. The bakery supplies numerous restaurants, markets and hotels from Edmonds to Tacoma to Port Townsend.

Macrina employs about 175 and features nearly 40,000 square feet of space for the bakery, storage, cafe and offices.

Leslie Mackie opened Macrina in 1993 in Seattle to showcase her love of artisanal bread. Macrina also has three cafes in Seattle, including SODO and Belltown.
