A total of 118 employees will lose their jobs as layoffs continue at Berry Plastics Corp., in Kent.
Layoffs of the 118 started in January, according to the state Department of Employee Security. The company plans to close its local facility in May.
Berry Plastics laid off 59 Kent employees in 2012. The company is based in Evansville, Ind., and has numerous locations across the nation. Plants in Texas and Illinois also are scheduled to close.
The layoff notices are required for companies with 100 or more employees by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) act. Workers must be notified 60 days prior to closures and layoffs.
