The U.S. Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), will be christened on Saturday at the Newport News, Va., shipyard, and Kent-based Tri-Tec Manufacturing is celebrating the company’s contribution to the ship’s construction.
With a workforce of 47 men and women, Tri-Tec Manufacturing supplies compartment isolation fire safe ventilation closure valves to the construction of one of the largest, most powerful and most technologically advanced ships. Ford’s christening marks the accomplishment of years of construction and design and countless man hours. Tri-Tec Manufacturing is part of a defense industrial base consisting of more than 2,000 small, mid-sized and large businesses from 46 states that provides parts and services for Ford-class carriers.Ford is the first new carrier design in 40 years and reflects concepts and technologies matured during 100 years of U.S. Navy carrier operations. The ship will soon take its place in the nation’s carrier fleet.

Gerald R. Ford will be able to launch 25-percent more flight missions, its design will reduce necessary maintenance by 30 percent, and will save the U.S. Navy a projected $4 billion over Ford’s 50-year life span.
