Kent Chamber delivers Business Excellence Awards at recent gala

Individuals, companies honored for their work, service

The Kent Chamber of Commerce recently recognized and applauded the leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that member companies and their employees embody and share with the community.

Individuals and business were honored at the chamber’s President’s Gala & Business Leadership Awards program at the accesso ShoWare Center on May 18.

Kent Chamber of Commerce award winners:

Educator of the Year: Wade Barringer, principal, Kent-Meridian High School

The award is presented to an educator, school administrator or businessperson who has made a significant impact to ensure a highly motivated and skilled workforce.

Chamber Member of the Year: Harry Wilson, owner of Shine on Signs & Graphics, is co-chair of the Membership Committee and serves of the board of directors for the organization.

The award honors a member whose infectious enthusiasm, vision and drive has caused more businesses and their employees to be engaged and supportive of the organization.

Legislator/Government Employee of the Year: Kent City Council member Brenda Fincher

The award honors an elected official or government employee who, through their actions and leadership, supported the business community’s need for reasonable costs for rules of doing business.

Citizen of the Year: Kent Municipal Judge Karli Jorgensen

The award honors a member who has contributed significant resources to the community, thus improving the livability and quality of the community through personal or company leadership.

Customer Service of the Year: Plemmons Industries

Presented to a member company that engages in exceptional customer service.

Manufacturer of the Year: Exotic Metals Forming Company, LLC

The award honors the individuals and companies that bring uncompromising excellence to Kent manufacturing.

New Business of the Year: ANEW – Apprenticeships & Non-Traditional Employment for Women

Awarded to a new business that has come to Kent in the last two years.

Economic Engine of the Year: Columbia Distributing

Presented to a member company that caused new jobs to be sustained in the area or maintained a significant number of current jobs to insure a stable job force in the community.

Business of the Year: Champion Arms Indoor Shooting Range

Presented to a member company that has engaged in civic and community leadership.

Community Influencer of the Year: Jeff Kelly with AssetLab

Awarded to an individual or business that has influenced and shaped the community.

President’s Award: John Volken Academy

Presented to a business that has gone above and beyond for the Kent Chamber and community.
