Sixty-five local facilities earned environmental awards from King County’s Industrial Waste Program for dedication to business practices that protected regional water quality in 2015.
Each year, the Industrial Waste Program, which operates as part of King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division, honors local facilities whose business practices contribute to regional pollution prevention goals.
Skills Inc. in Auburn received the Commitment-to-Compliance Award for meeting permit requirements every month for five consecutive years with no violations of any kind.
Fifty-two facilities earned Gold Awards for compliance with wastewater discharge regulations every month in 2015 with no violations, and 13 facilities earned Silver Awards for having no King County monitoring discharge violations in 2015.
Since 1969, the Industrial Waste Program has required industrial facilities to pretreat wastewater before discharging it into the sewer to protect the King County’s treatment system and its workers as well as the environment and public health.

Gold Award winners from Kent included: Aramark Uniform & Career Apparel LLC; Esterline Hytek Finishes Co.; Protective Coatings Inc.; Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products; Seattle Public Utilities, Kent Highlands Landfill; and the Smith Brothers Farms Milk Plant.
Kent’s Davis Wire Corp. earned a Silver Award.
