Kent Station hosts its annual college scholarship fundraiser for Green River College students throughout March.
Get the Gator at Kent Station began in 2007 to provide scholarships to Kent graduates attending GRC. Since then, Kent Station has provided 40 scholarships totaling more than $56,000 in college funding to students who might not be able to afford college otherwise.
During the month, customers can participate in the college fundraiser by visiting participating Kent Station merchants, finding the Got the Gator poster, taking a selfie and then emailing or posting it on social media with #gatorKS. For each selfie emailed or posted, Kent Station will donate $1 to the Kent Station-GRC Scholarship Fund.
Seth Johnson, one of the 2018 scholarship recipients, is pursuing a bachelors of applied science in network administration and security at Green River. Johnson wrote a thank you letter to Kent Station saying, “I would like to express my gratitude at being selected for this scholarship. As a low-income student with chronic health challenges, finding the funds to continue my education has been difficult, but your generosity has allowed me to continue my education without added debt or stress. The gift of an education is perhaps one of the greatest gifts of all.””
Each photo emailed and posted will give Kent Station customers the opportunity to win prizes, including the grand prize of a $500 Kent Station gift card, plus gift cards ranging from $25 to $100. The prize winners will be selected at random on April 5. All details are at KentStation.com.
Harborstone Credit Union at Kent Station donated to the promotion, helping to offset the costs and helping to make it possible to continue supporting Green River students. The Kent Rotary Club is partnering with Get the Gator at Kent Station.
“The Kent Rotary Club sees participating in Kent Station’s Get the Gator scholarship promotion in support of Kent area students enrolled at Green River College as a natural extension of the Kent Rotary Scholarship program that has been active since the club was founded in 1958,” said Rotary member Josh Gerstman. “Kent Rotary serves youth by fighting hunger, providing leadership development, and supporting access to higher education and career training. A portion of funds raised through the annual Escapades Auction are dedicated to support scholarships.”
