Kent Station hosts its annual college scholarship fundraiser for Green River College students throughout March.
Get the Gator at Kent Station, formerly Moolah for Schoolah, began in 2007 to provide scholarships to Kent graduates attending GRC. Since then, Kent Station has provided more than 40 scholarships totaling more than $54,000 in college funding to students who might not be able to afford college otherwise.
During the month, customers can participate in the college fundraiser by visiting participating Kent Station merchants, finding the Got the Gator poster, taking a selfie and then emailing or posting it on social media. For each selfie emailed or posted, Kent Station will donate $1 to the Kent Station-GRC Scholarship Fund.
Jaqulyne Marco is one of the 2017 scholarship recipients. She is pursuing her associate of arts degree at GRC, and ultimately she would like to earn a degree in nutrition and apply to a four-year university with a dietician program.
“Receiving this scholarship gave me no right for excuses for pausing school and encouraged me to continue to achieve academic success,” Marco said. “Knowing that there are people who are complete strangers to me that wish to assist in my success is incredibly empowering.”
Each photo emailed and posted will give Kent Station customers the opportunity to win prizes, including the grand prize of a $500 Kent Station gift card, plus gift cards ranging from $25 to $100. The prize winners will be selected at random on April 5. All details are at KentStation.com.
Harborstone Credit Union at Kent Station donated to the promotion, helping to offset the costs and helping to make it possible to continue supporting Green River students. The Kent Rotary Club is partnering with Get the Gator at Kent Station.
Rotary members Josh Gerstman and Greg Haffner said: “As members of Kent Rotary Club, we want today’s youth to see a future for themselves in Kent and the diversity of careers in which they can find meaningful work – whether in manufacturing, health care, robotics, aerospace, high tech, small business and more. Rotary is only as strong as the vocations represented in our club and the relationships we have in the community. Partnering with Kent Station is a natural way to raise awareness and to strengthen our community.”
