In preparation of the upcoming holiday season, Foster Farms donated 640 turkeys – weighing more then 10,000 pounds – to Northwest Harvest.
The frozen birds, which were delivered to Northwest Harvest’s Kent distribution center last Friday, will be distributed to local organizations to provide nearly 7,700 meals.
Northwest Harvest partners with 375 food pantries, meal programs and high-need schools across the state. About 2.7 million household in Washington state are food insecure, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Northwest Harvest is one of eight food banks to receive Foster Farms holiday turkey donations in California, Oregon and Washington. Collectively, Foster Farms will donate more than 4,200 turkeys – or 67,000 pounds of turkey – helping to serve more than 70,000 holiday meals.
