Congressman Adam Smith will provide an update on healthcare, the economy and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan at the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce April Membership Luncheon April 9.

Congressman Adam Smith will provide an update on healthcare, the economy and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan at the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce April Membership Luncheon April 9.

Smith serves on both the Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also served until recently on the House Foreign Affairs Committee for eight years. As a 13-year member of the House Armed Services Committee, he chairs the Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces. This committee has jurisdiction of all Army and nearly all Air Force acquisition programs. Prior to being named chair of ALF, Adam chaired the Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities subcommittee, which oversees the nation’s Special Operations Forces and counter-terrorism policy, among other critical areas. As a member of the Intelligence Committee, Smith is responsible for overseeing and funding the intelligence and intelligence-related activities and programs of the United States government.

Smith has traveled to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and other countries throughout the Middle East as well as counties across Eastern, Central and Northern Africa where U.S. national security interests are most present. Harnessing his committee and travel experience, Smith has authored and passed legislation on national security issues such as strategic communication, irregular warfare, and international development.

The luncheon runs 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center, 17620 Internatonal Boulevard, SeaTac. Lunch is $20 pre-paid by noon April 8t or $25 at the door.
