The city of Kent – in association with the Kent Downtown Partnership, Kent Station, Republic Services, Doorman Services and the Lions Club – invites the community to Team Up 2 Clean Up Kent, a citywide litter cleanup event Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Residents, neighborhood and faith-based organizations, civic groups, schools, youth organizations, businesses and families are encouraged to get involved with the citywide effort.
“Not only is it an awesome way to make a difference in your community, but it’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise at the same time,” said city conservation coordinator Gina Hungerford.
Volunteers can pick up free gloves and litter bags along with directions to “hot spots” that could benefit from some extra attention by meeting at 9 a.m. at one of two locations:
• Kherson Park, 307 W. Gowe St. (downtown)
• Golden Steer Steak ‘n’ Rib House, 23826 104th Ave. SE (East Hill)
Filled litter bags can also be dropped off at the same locations that day until noon.
Large company or neighborhood groups preferring to pick up bags and gloves the week before the event may do so at the Centennial Center’s Public Works Office, 400 W. Gowe St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We hope to get a great turnout at this litter clean up,” Mayor Suzette Cooke said. “Historically, several community organizations have held individual events. By working together, we can make a visible difference across the entire city.”
Individuals and groups interested in participating in TeamUp2CleanUp Kent must register by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13 at KentWA.gov/TalkingTrash.
