Business owners in Kent, Auburn, Renton and Tukwila can learn to prepare for potential Green River flooding this winter at an Emergency Preparedness Symposium from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
The event is hosted by the Kent, Auburn Area, Renton and Southwest King County chambers of commerce.
Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Puget Sound Energy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Washington State Business Continuity Planning are scheduled to make presentations.
Attendees can join breakout sessions during the symposium with representatives from the cities of Kent, Auburn, Renton and Tukwila.
Organizers will display flood maps and have flood insurers, certified by FEMA, on hand to answer insurance questions.
Army Corps officials say there’s a higher-than-average chance of floods this winter because of reduced water-storage capacity at the river’s Howard Hanson Dam project.
For reservations, call Nancy Wyatt of the Auburn chamber at 253-833-0700 or e-mail Wyatt at nancy@auburnareawa.org.
