Airways Brewing in Kent to expand patio at The Beer & Bistro Garden

Heated covering, second kitchen to be completed in June

Airways Brewing’s The Bistro & Beer Garden in downtown Kent plans to expand its patio this spring in time for a June opening.

“After much fanfare and delay, our patio expansion project at The Bistro & Beer Garden in downtown Kent is about to get underway,” according to a Feb. 1 Airways Brewing email.

“For those of you who haven’t heard what’s happening, our entire patio is getting ripped up and repoured; a permanent, heated covering will be installed; a second kitchen and grill station for extra cooking capacity is being built; and new fencing and landscaping put in.”

Construction is scheduled to begin Feb. 9 and be completed in June – just in time for summer nights dining and drinking outdoors, according to Airways Brewing.

The Bistro & Beer Garden is at 320 W. Harrison St. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, go to airwaysbrewing.com.

The Bistro & Beer Garden opened in 2011, in a single space that is now the bar. In 2016, the restaurant expanded with a new kitchen and an additional 60 seats on the patio.

Airways Brewing’s first location was the Tap Room & Brewery, which opened in March 2010. The Tap Room and Brewery, 8611 S. 212th St., is open 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Airways Brewing also announced a few beer releases:

• Don in the Cities Bock returns on Feb. 9. A lagering period of three months allows this beautifully ruby-red beer to develop its flavors of dried dark fruits and caramel. We’ll tap a cask of it at 4 p.m. on release day at The Tap Room & Brewery.

• Biergarten Kellerbier is back on tap Feb. 16. Yeah, it might not officially be beer garden season just quite yet, but we can pretend, can’t we? This unfiltered, flavorful lager is reminiscent of the beers we’ve consumed a lot of in small village breweries throughout the Franconian region of Germany.

• Coming in March: The return of our New Glenn Kölsch-style Ale.
