The Mercer Island unit of the League of Women Voters sponsored a public candidate forum with the Mercer Island Reporter on Oct. 21 at Islander Middle School.
Here in the 33rd Legislative District we have some the best people representing us: U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, U.S. Congressman Adam Smith, State Sen. Karen Keiser, State Rep. Dave Upthegrove. It’s not by coincidence that each of them endorses Tina Orwall for state representative in the 33rd.

Root beer has mostly given way to orange soda for Michael Christiansen.
But the Kent-Meridian volleyball coach couldn’t be any happier with the change in soft drinks. It simply means the Royals are winning. Drinking an orange soda after victories has become tradition for Christiansen. And root beer?

A fire destroyed two storage sheds next to a home Wednesday morning in the 700 block of Second Avenue North in downtown Kent.
There were no injuries. Firefighters from the Kent Fire Department and Auburn’s Valley Regional Fire Authority responded at 5:49 a.m. Oct. 15 to the report of a house fire and found two large storage sheds fully involved with fire behind the home.
Soon we will get the chance to vote for or against I-1000; it proposes that we should have the opportunity to die with dignity.
I think we all want that when the time comes. But I-1000 says that it should be legal to end one’s life by self-administering a lethal dose of medication prescribed by a doctor who agrees the patient has less than six months to live.
You’ve probably heard the news. King County is facing a $93 million budget shortfall for 2009, close to 10 percent of its general fund. This is one of the worst deficits our county government has ever experienced.
