Gymnastics Preview: Kent-Meridian, Kentwood and Kentlake

Her ascension has been gradual. But make no mistake, Kent-Meridian gymnast Nora Keith is certainly on her way up. And she wants to keep it that way this winter. A three-time state participant, the 5-foot-1, 17-year-old Royal has big aspirations this season, and understandably so. Keith has done just about everything on the vault at the state level. She took 10th as a freshman, improved three spots to seventh as a sophomore and brought home an impressive third-place finish last winter as a junior.

T-Birds’ rally falls short against Saskatoon Dec. 30

The Saskatoon Blades defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 Wednesday night at ShoWare Center in Kent. The T-Birds were down four goals after two periods but rallied and scored three goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period. They also had several solid opportunities in the last two minutes of the game but were unable to get the tying goal.

Kent Toys for Joy program collects gifts for more than 2,000 needy children

Kent firefighters collected more than 5,000 gifts for more than 2,000 children during the 2009 Toys for Joy program. The final numbers were released Dec. 30 by the Kent Fire Department. The toys were delivered Dec. 22 to the Kent Food Bank to be distributed to families.

Tacoma man steals truck, calls 911 when he runs out of gas near Kent

The Washington State Patrol arrested a 19-year-old Tacoma man for investigation of auto theft after he reportedly stole a truck and then called 911 after the vehicle stalled Dec. 29 along Highway 167 near Kent.
