King County names new manager to head up regional animal-shelter entity

King County’s transition to a new regional model for the provision of animal services received a boost Wednesday with the addition of a longtime city of Seattle director who once had oversight of the Seattle Animal Shelter. King County Executive Dow Constantine today named Ken Nakatsu as the manager of Regional Animal Services for King County Animal Care and Control.

They’ve been at the top of the 103-pound state rankings all season long and have taken turns beating one another the last two weeks. A little more than a week ago, Kentwood’s Ruben Navejas avenged one of the few losses of his prep career, beating Tahoma’s Steven Hopkins 7-4 for the regional title.

Jesus Valdez savored this one. Kent-Meridian’s standout 103-pound wrestler accomplished something on Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome that no other member of the school’s program has done during the past decade.

He started the season in pain, but finished it on the podium. Kentlake’s Sean Cavanagh has endured a gauntlet of emotions this winter, the last of which was joy on Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome, when he accepted a medal for taking sixth place at Mat Classic XXII.
