Chris Cho, a 2008 Kentridge High graduate and four-time state participant, is now competing at the University of Idaho. Sean McMullen, who graduated last spring and who made four strong runs at the state tournament, is now playing at Seattle University. Yet, Cho and McMullen never did accomplish what the Chargers managed last week.
Behind a huge performance from sophomore Nick Fisher at Lake Wilderness Golf Course, the Chargers turned back Tahoma 78-71 on Thursday, Oct. 7 to secure the South Puget Sound League North Division title.
The second and final regular-season home game of the Seattle Mist ended Oct. 8 with a loss against the Chicago Bliss. The game took place at the ShoWare Center in Kent, amid screaming fans and lots of hoopla. The Mist lost 41-12, putting them at 0-2 in the league. They still have two road games to play: Oct. 22 at San Diego (the San Diego Seduction) and Jan. 21 in Dallas (the Dallas Desire.)n The jury is still out on whether there is a playoff game in their future.
Chilliwack, B.C.- Brendan Rouse had a hat trick Oct. 9 at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack to help lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 6-3 victory over the Chilliwack Bruins.
The line off Mitch Elliot, Colin Jacobs and Tyler Alos combined for seven points in the game. Jacobs had a goal and two assists, Elliot had a goal and an assist and Alos had two assists.
The T-Birds (4-2-0-0) have now won three games in a row.
For the second night in a row Marcel Noebels scored a shootout winning goal to help the Seattle Thunderbirds to a victory.
On Oct. 1, Noebels scored the shootout winner in a 3-2 T-Bird victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes at ShoWare Center. Oct. 2 at the Rose Garden Noebels scored the shootout winner to give the T-Birds a 3-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks.
Defenseman Travis Bobbee is the Thunderbirds Player of the Week. He is a 20-year-old defenseman entering his fifth season with the Western Hockey League. The T-Birds acquired him in September.
The City of Kent is getting its first off-leash dog park. Located on East Hill between Morrill Meadows and East Hill Parks on Southeast 248th Street, the 3-acre site will have its Grand Opening 1 p.m. Oct. 23. In place of a traditional ribbon-cutting, Mayor Suzette Cooke will untie a string of colorful doggie bandanas to “unleash” the park and let the dogs take it over.
The Kent-based band Erwilian will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St., to help raise money for the center's lunch program.

Friday night at a jam-packed French Field in front of an estimated 6,000 fans, however, it was the heady play of Kentwood High’s Mikell Everette that proved to be the difference against Kentlake in an edge-of-the-seat South Puget Sound League North Division football game.
Tied 21-21 to start the fourth quarter, Everette blocked the punt of Kentlake’s Ryan Archibald, deflecting the ball out of bounds for a two-point safety. On a night of multiple momentum shifts, Everette’s big play made the biggest difference, lifting the fifth-ranked Conquerors past the Falcons 30-28 in a game between the North’s final two unbeaten teams.
