Kentlake alum Lasharr graduates from basic training

Army Reserve Pfc. Joshua J. Lasharr has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Richard and Tammari Lasharr of Kent, and a 2010 Kentlake High School graduate.

Operation Christmas Guild collecting gifts from Kent for suffering children around the world

Christmas is arriving early in Kent, as Valley View Christian Church prepares to serve as a collection point for Operation Christmas Child. Soon, with the help of local volunteers, the site will be brimming with festively wrapped shoe boxes full of gifts.

Moose Jaw takes down Seattle 2-1 in shootout action Nov. 7

The Moose Jaw Warriors defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 in a shootout Sunday night at the Civic Centre in Moose Jaw. The game was tied 1-1 after 65 minutes of play to send the game to a shootout. Moose Jaw elected to shoot first in the shootout.

Wheatkings thrash T-Birds 3-2 in overtime Nov. 6

The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Nov. 6 at Westman Place in Brandon, Manitoba. This was the first game of a six-game road trip for the T-Birds. They faced the Moose Jaw Warriors Sundayl losing to them in a shootout.

Kamloops defeats Seattle 3-2 in overtime Oct. 30

The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia. Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped a season-high 49 shots. His record with the overtime loss is now 5-3-2-2.

Kent man facing mutliple charges following break-in at Seattle home

A Kent man is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a Seattle-area home last month and being subdued by the family residing there. Tyler Thomas Price has been charged with first-degree burglary, unlawful firearm possession and a drug violation stemming from the case in the Fremont area. He also is charged with second-degree robbery for a Sept. 12 robbery involving the Washington Park Apartments in Kent, according to media reports.

Grease fire damages Kent apartment units

A grease fire on a stove displaced two families Nov. 6 from a Kent apartment complex in the 22400 block of the Benson Road, also known as 108th Avenue Southeast.

Kent pet owner alert: Agents out to enforce pet-license fees

Pet owners who fail to obtain pet licenses now face fines, and King County Regional Animal Services officers are providing additional patrols throughout Kent to enforce the new rules which went into effect Oct. 1. The fines - $125 for a spayed or neutered pet; $250 for an unaltered pet - come along with changes in license fees, which help support the costs of providing animal care and control for Kent and 26 other cities.

The offense couldn’t get going and the defense couldn’t get off the field. Making its first playoff appearance on Saturday night since 2003, the Kentlake High football team found itself as the deer caught in the headlights.

He’s not much for offense. But Friday night at French Field, Kentwood High defensive back Steele Warner was plenty offensive – on both sides of the ball. Warner, a senior, returned a fumble for a touchdown and set a school playoff record on offense with a 91-yard rushing score on his only carry of the night as the fourth-ranked Conquerors blitzed Heritage 57-14 in a state preliminary game.

Kent Police arrest man in connection with Panther Lake apartment shooting

Kent Police arrested a 30-year-old Kent man Nov. 4 for investigation of attempted murder and first-degree assault in connection with a Sept. 30 shooting that injured two men at a Panther Lake area apartment complex. The men, a 38-year-old Renton man and a 37-year-old resident of the Country Squire Apartments, 10835 S.E. 200th St.

King County: Voter participation exceeds 71 percent, a new record

Ballots are still arriving in the mail at King County Elections, however most of the ballots postmarked by the Election Day deadline have been delivered, totaling more than 762,000.
