The Kent-Meridian High boys basketball team has taken plenty of punches to the gut the last several years in the South Puget Sound League North Division. Tuesday night, the Royals punched back. D’Juan Miller scored a team-high 11 points, including seven in the pivotal fourth quarter, and Tyree Bagley added 10 more, leading the Royals to a 47-42 upset of third-ranked Kentwood at Green River Community College.

Seattle Thunderbirds, Kent-Meridian High School, join forces for Jan. 7 match at ShoWare Center

The Seattle Thunderbirds and Kent-Meridian High School are teaming up for an evening of school spirit Friday at the Kent ShoWare Center. Kent-Meridian's DECA and video-production students will be "taking over" the T-Birds' hockey game to raise money for K-M, as well as to promote the school in the community.

Kent travel advisory: Neighborhood streets reopened after icy morning

City of Kent road advisory as of 10:47 a.m. Jan. 3: Due to icy conditions on these steep neigborhood streets, 42nd Avenue South is closed to general traffic from S 262nd Street to Hampton Way and 46th Avenue South is closed from South 262nd Street to Carnaby Way. They will be re-opened as soon as they can be cleared for safe travel.

Car chase goes from White Center to Kent; shots fired, suspect eludes deputies

A driver of a 1997 Acura Integra fired several shots at a red sports utility vehicle during a chase that started Jan. 2 in White Center and ended along southbound Interstate 5 near the Kent-Des Moines Road when King County Sheriff's Office deputies lost sight of the Acura.

Chiefs hand Thunderbirds defeat on Spokane home ice Dec. 29

The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-2 Dec. 29 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane. The first shot of the game put Seattle (15-13-3-4) in front 1-0. Travis Toomey beat Spokane goalie James Reid over the glove at 2:19 to give the T-Birds the lead. Erik Bonsor and Burke Gallimore had assists on Toomey's sixth goal of the year.

New Year’s Eve fire displaces Kent family

A Kent Fire investigator is looking into the cause of a house fire which took place at 1:12 p.m. Dec. 31, in the 23000 block of 112th Place Southeast on Kent’s East Hill. Kent firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames in the attached garage of the two-story, single-family residence.
